Ekphrasis (also spelled “echprasis”) is a direct transcription from the Greek ek, “out of,” and phrasis, “speech” or “expression.” Ekphrastic writing is poetry/prose that comments upon another art form, e.g., a poem about a photograph or a novel about a film.
