Each June, NHCC offers Voces: Writing Institute for Youth, a four week, intensive writing workshop for high school students. A writing mentor works with 20 students for a month, guiding them through a curriculum of writing, editing, and performing. Writers, published authors, and local poets with varied experience are invited each summer to participate as instructors and role models. Students present their work to family and friends during a special celebration and NHCC publishes a collection of their work each Fall. This year’s program is facilitated entirely by Urban Verbs, a multimedia hip hop theater production and collaborative founded by Colin “Diles” Hazelbaker, Carlos Contreras, and Hakim Bellamy.
